After CFP opened its doors in August of 2010, it was only a matter of months before Philip Cala walked in and joined the gym. After years of personal training experience and obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree from Auburn University, he decided to get his CrossFit Level 1 certification and the rest is history. Philip has been with our gym since the beginning and has been a part of the success and growth we have obtained today .
Recently, Philip finalized plans to move back to his home town of Mobile, Alabama.
I have made this decision based on what I am looking for in my future. This was my decision and is not the result of anything anyone did. It is a difficult process but after months of prayers and truly thinking about what I want in life, the ending result is that I need to move on.
Philip has applied for various management jobs in Mobile and will continue to apply for positions that mostly involve sales. Philip has also thought of becoming a high school teacher, teaching nutrition and wellness ,while becoming the schools golf coach.
That’s something that I’d really enjoy I think.
First and foremost I’d like thank Dalton and Kelly for giving me the best job someone could have for the past 4 years. I was at CFP from the beginning and have seen it grow to an unbelievable gym. The clients, atmosphere, the coaches, the workouts, are clearly the best you can get. I would also like to thank all of you for giving your all during the many classes I coached over the years. It’s hard to come into a gym, let alone a CrossFit gym and go so hard that you’re on the floor after youre done. Watching all of you do this and not quit speaks volumes. I want to thank CFP for the learning experience. I not only learned a lot from Dalton but the clients as well. And lastly, I would also like to thank everyone for helping with “Buddy”. Its been great to be able to take him to work with me everyday!
As many of us are painfully aware, Auburn is definitely a place of transition for many. Over the years we have seen hundreds of friends and members come and go but wouldn’t change it for the world. We are always here for those friends to come back to. CFP is a gathering place for those people to return to…like a home. Its a place that holds memories.
“Philip is more than a coach to us. He is our family. I really think that the reason he is leaving is because we were spending a lot of our days together now that I work at the gym and he wants to get away from me:) Just kidding…but for real, I am going to miss him like crazy. I know Philip has a lot of amazing things on the horizon and I am excited to see what God has planned for the next chapter. Its important to find yourself in this world and I believe that Philip is doing just that and I feel lucky that we got to have him for as long as we did! Thank you Phil for being a heck of a man and coach and blessing us with your presence.”- Kelly Ard
I have seen people come and go and I know no one likes change but in order for one to grow change must happen. I want everyone to stay in contact with me even if its a quick Facebook message or email. I am also always here for nutrition advice!
“Philip has been an essential part of the growth at CrossFit on the Plains; he has been a loyal and dedicated coach that shows up every day ready to work hard at not only training others but in his own training as well. I’m very appreciative of the many hours (sometimes off the clock) that Philip dedicated to the gym by giving nutrition advice, helping with events, judging during the open, and the list could go on for a while. We will miss having Philip on staff at CFP, and wish him the best as he starts a new phase in his life.”- Dalton Ard
We truly wish Philip the best and plan to see him in the fall for football games. Also, we will be hanging one of his coaching shirts in retirement!
