This past weekend, Michael DiChiara completed a “WOD-a-thon for Autism” event held at CrossFit Northridge where his brother is a member. CrossFit Northridge is located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Representing CFP!!!

Michael’s team was CFNR3 and  tied for first place in the scaled division! Michael competed with his brother and friend, Carla.

“The team WOD was Grace (Carla), Helen (me), and Dianne (my brother). We finished this is just under 15min. (Scaled of course)”

“Cheering on my bro!”

“We also had a Snatch ladder, and I made it up to 155lbs. Thanks so much to Mike Jones and Phil for working with me on Friday before I went up to Tuscaloosa for the WOD, they definitely helped me reach my new PR!”

“Snatch Squatch new PR!”

It’s always incredible to see athletes signing up for events like this to not only get a good workout in, but make a different and do it for a cause! Congrats to Michael on that PR as well! Thank you for representing CFP and representing us well!

We wanted to give each of our members a chance to team up and have some fun together! **There will be no cost for this event** We encourage each member to team up and have some fun! We all work out together everyday anyways so let’s add another element to it!

Teams will be made up of one male and one female. We will have Scaled and Rx divisions.

3-4 Short WOD’s

Each team is responsible for their own team shirts. There will be a prize given for the best team shirt!

This event is for everyone at CFP!! Let’s have some fun! We are working on providing child care that Saturday so that all of our couples with kids can join in for the fun! We will keep you posted on that!

There is a sign up on one of the whiteboards at the gym so please place your team on there as soon as you know who you will be competing with. The WOD’s will be something that everyone at CFP can complete and if you are unsure of being able to perform 3-4 WOD’s and this is your first “competition”, feel free to go scaled!

We will have judges for the events and will do our best to have the event completed in a timely fashion.

If you are interested in judging/volunteering please contact Kelly at kelly@mcwlegal.com.

Upcoming Mad Mania and 13.3 Open Workout

Attention everyone:  The gym will be closed for all classes this Saturday for the Mud Mania event.

All members running in Mud Mania please note that CFP will have a tent set up in the sponsor area. Dalton will be at the tent for the entire event so feel free to drop your extra clothes, etc. off there and hang out with him in between heats. Also, we will be providing information to hand out to potential members so please feel free to help him out with that. It sounds like all CFP members will be running in the 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. heats so feel free to cheer them on!

Also just a heads up, you will be running through “red clay” mud so if this if your first year doing it, don’t wear anything you want to keep. There is usually an area where you can spray off with a hose but you may want to bring a change of clothes as well.

With that said, we will NOT be having the 13.3 open workout on Saturday, it will be held Sunday at 2:30.

Again, we encourage those of you who are competing in the Open to stay and cheer others on when you are finished and would love for other members to come out for support! Feel free to bring a tailgate chair and watch the craziness! We do not know what 13.3 will be yet but normally it takes a few hours. If the weather is nice, we will have the doors open so please come and enjoy!

We wish everyone the best of luck on the run and 13.3!

Michael DiChiara Completes The Gump Games

On Saturday, March 9, 2013, Michael competed in The Gump Games held in Montgomery, Alabama. The event was held at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex which catered to hundreds of athletes and spectators.

Michael finished 4th in men’s scaled division out of 25 competitors!

Michael is going to attempt Rx for his next competition since he finished top 5 in scaled. Great job Michael!

“The third WOD was my favorite (3 Stadium Ascents, 50 yard Burpee Broad Jumps, 75 ABMAT Situps, 50 yard Prisoner Lunge, 75 Lateral Jumps), especially since they threw in a surprise 350+yard sprint, and I am better at body weight stuff. It was also really rough too because of the intense cardio.”

Erica McDaniel Completes The Gump Games

On Saturday, March 9, 2013, Erica competed in The Gump Games held in Montgomery, Alabama. The event was held at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex which catered to hundreds of athletes and spectators. Erica McDanel competed in the women’s scaled division for her first competition.

“Besides the Throwdown- it was the first big competition I had ever done. I honestly don’t know what made me sign up for it.Even though I have been “doing” CrossFit for close to 8 months now, I have only been a CrossFit “athlete” for 3 months. In January, I decided to be dedicated to the sport. I no longer looked at it as an opportunity to go to the gym and do something with myself. I FINALLY had the mindset that I was going to go in there and excel in the sport. With the support from everyone at CFP and the huge accountability, I was in the gym four to five days a week as opposed to my previous one to two days a week.  After the Whole30 began, my goal was to see an increase in performance, so maybe that’s where my motivation for doing The Gump Games came from.”

“I was SO NERVOUS, and of course ended up being in the first heat (of six.) The first WOD was my favorite. It was called “Ladder Up.” 12 min AMRAP, starting with 3 DL, 3 Power Cleans, 3 Push Jerks, and 3 Handstand Holds. The next round was 4 reps, the next 5, and so on. I completely dominated the Handstand holds with perfect form :) I completed 9 full rounds and 15 reps of the 10th round. 183 reps I think.”

“The second WOD was by far the hardest. 20 min time cap; 6 rounds of 20 Wall Balls, sprint 150 ft, 20 KB swings- first starting with a 50 hand-release push up buy in. I was so angry with myself because I feel like I could have done much better. I completed 5 1/2 rounds. That was the first time in 8 months that I wanted to stop and walk out. My entire body was like a big noodle and I could not breathe. THANKFULLY, my judge was super awesome and encouraged me to keep going. This WOD was mental for me just because I dislike Wall Balls.”

“The last WOD, “Mr. Cramton” was insane. We had to sprint around the stadium, run 3 stadium ascents, 50 yard burpee broad jump, 75 ab mat sit ups, 50 yard prisoner lunge, and 75 lateral jumps over a barbell. This one was actually kind of fun. I got really confused on the running part on the beginning and added an extra 200 yards which wasted time on the clock… but oh well. I finished in close to 17 minutes. Quinn gave me the advice to keep going and never stop. I can honestly say that I never really STOPPED for a long amount of time. A second here and there to re-adjust on the sit ups and a couple of times on the lateral jumps just because I’ve never done the movement before. Here is where my body impressed me. I was dead by this point, but not in the same way as the second WOD. Every single muscle in my body was just fatigued and I remember thinking “Dang, 75, thats A LOT.” I did a few reps and then busted out like 15, then 25, then like 35. And was done. FINISHED. The happiness from finishing made me feel like I could do the WOD all over again!”

I finished 27th overall  but mentally I was strong.  I definitely enjoyed it, and will be doing more competitions. Having Michael there was a blessing, I am not sure I could have done it without him. He was the only other member from CFP. I can see the effect that all of yall have on me in the box, and there is no doubt in my mind that I could have done better with all my peeps there cheering me on. So that is where I am frustrated with myself… I wish I could have had that motivation ON MY OWN to perform better. BUT that’s just part of CrossFit… the community. It’s so repetitive, but SO TRUE. I was out of my comfort zone and it was weird not having any of the familiar voices screaming at me. I think thats why the second WOD was my least favorite. It was me and the judge. Nobody else. So my pansy mind definitely won that one. CFP seriously rocks and I couldn’t imagine being part of any other gym, like for real. The standard and integrity of our gym is at the very top. You couldn’t pay me to go anywhere else. So that’s why I’m never leaving Auburn. Ever.”

Toomer’s Tribute WOD

On April 20, 2013, after the A-Day game, thousands of people will have their last chance to roll the original Toomer’s oaks that have overlooked Toomer’c Corner for countless years. After the A-Day celebration, the beloved trees will be removed. It is unclear what they will be replaced with as there are rumors of replacement oaks or possibly statues of the oaks.

Regardless, we have decided to host a “Toomer’s Tribute WOD”  in honor of the beloved trees. We have had a lot of inquiries about drop-ins that Saturday so we thought we might as well change it up a little bit and have some fun. The WOD will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20th. We are just having one WOD with numerous heats. It will run similar to our normal Saturday classes except, we will only have one class time that day and we will be hosting the Toomer’s Tribute WOD.

For the event, we will have t-shirts printed. For members, if you would like to WOD that day but do not want a t-shirt that’s totally fine! Come out and have some fun. For members that would like to do the WOD and get a t-shirt, the cost will be $20.00. (The cost is only to cover the t-shirts and if there is any money left over, it will be given to a charity).

For those of you that would like to drop-in that day, the cost will be $25.00 which will include your drop-in fee and shirt fee. If you plan on dropping in that day, please contact Dalton to let him know and give him your shirt size.

As soon as the design is completed for the shirts, we will post a picture to the website and Facebook page for you to check out! Sign up for this event, will end on Friday, April 5th to allow time for the shirts to be printed.

The WOD is going to be “Toomer’s” related. That’s all we can say at this point!

MEMBERS: Please email Kelly if you plan on attending and purchasing a shirt and let her know your shirt size. kelly@mcwlegal.com

Again, this event will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will move along quickly to allow everyone to enjoy A-Day!
